I'll admit, it's been awhile since I've really typed out anything. True, there was the Jotaro vs. Kenshiro review, but I'd like to focus my energies on something more positive.

So, I suppose I should dive into a topic that really sheds a light on who I am, who I was, and who I want to be.

TOP 11 FAVORITE CHARACTERS

Why top 11?

Because I like the Nostalgia Critic's work. Yes, I know of the debacle that went down between ThatGuyWithTheGlasses staff and the guys in charge. That doesn't mean I can't like his work or take a page from it in the very least.

Anyways, I'll be talking about characters that you may be expecting and may not be expecting that are my absolute favorites in fiction.

Each character or characters (Yes, there will be ties) shall receive their own page. There's little restraint on spoilers, so if you hate those, avoid my list. Or don't, since spoilers can also invest you even more since they tend to make you look more for the 'how' something is executed.

In any case, I'll be working on this. Stay tuned, ladies and gentlemen, if you are interested.

.....I'm incredibly salty.

Yeah, I'm not going to beat around the bush, it's Ken Masters of Street Fighter vs. Terry Bogard of Fatal Fury/King of Fighters. I've had that match sold to me by :icononeminutemeleeman: for awhile now.....

And now that's an official Death Battle.....

I'm not backing off from doing it.

The thing is, no matter what, they are going to botch it. Their last SF vs. KoF was underwhelming, their last SF fight was abysmal, and now they've taken a really good match-up that I have no faith in them for portraying. So, I'm going to do my own rendition, since they'll likely skip over many facts, such as King of Fighters and Fatal Fury's canons being separate (Yes, Fatal Fury's first tournament is the starting point in the KoF series, but they split in events afterwards), many of Terry's abilities being nerfed or not taken into account, Ken being played up for the sake of their 'integrity', and several other factors that I lack the patience to go into.

So, for all the people who say doing the match is a bad idea, I know I'm going to pull it off a lot better than they are. Not only are their sprite animations bad nowadays, their spirit losing its luster, and Ben being a controlling hack that cares more about his own opinions rather than calling the matches for what they are......but after all that, they are a business. They're going to spark up whatever they need to keep running, no matter how rushed or contrived. Not to say I'm a professional or anything, but I've a knack for fighting games, specifically Street Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters, and Dead or Alive. I've been playing them ever since I was a wee lad, so I think I'm a bit better at handling this fight than they are.

There are many tales that haunt the soul. Some involve the spilling of blood and tearing of flesh. Others use the mystique of the unknown to horrify those who hear it. However, these accounts of myth are most frightening when combined with an ancient creature that was simply described as inhuman.

Monsters.

Among their ranks, certain beasts were legendary. Werewolves with their claws and feral instinct hunted the night for human prey. Creations such as Dr. Frankenstein's were blessed with unnatural intellect, but were shunned for their deviation from man. The Mummy, once a noble mortal, was cast into a coffin, only to be raised by mystical means that granted him immortality.

However, no monster is more infamous than the Lords of Darkness themselves.

Vampires.

Far more powerful and sophisticated than any man could dream, they conquered their enemies through brute strength, fierce speed, ruthless intelligence, and unmatched powers. The only thing more deadly than their gifts were their curses cast upon history. For centuries, they have left a doubtless mark that would never be matched.

Despite the manner of monster they were, even they had to answer to something. Whether it be fate or a higher power, shackles had clenched them like the rest.

Miraculously, though, there were those of their kind who would topple anything.

"The world would be so boring without idiots like you to amuse me."

The kings have revealed themselves. While both are indeed powerful specimen, they are immediately compelled to hate one another. Not only has a pretender come to their throne, but the other is completely vulgar for their personal attributes to accept. Only one outcome is possible.

A battle.....to the death.

Kain vs. Alucard.......

"Mother! Mother! Please hang on, I'm almost there!" The young boy rushed to the burning house without hesitation. While he could not see far into the smoke, he did not waste a breath running straight into it.

Before long, he saw his mother crumpled underneath some furniture. Despite screaming for him to get away, he saw his mother hurt and he had to help. After lifting the cabinet obstructing her escape, the boy stayed by his mother's side as a crutch.

He was able to clear some of the fire before seeing a way out. Knowing he could make it, he hastened the pace.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw it. Within the flames with them was a singular shadowy sentinel. Even after turning to face it, he still could not make out everything. All that was visible were two red, soul-piercing eyes.

His mother attempted to use her body as a shield for her son, but he would not allow that. He put himself between her and the monster, beckoning the beast to face him. Despite putting up all the fight he could, there was no contest as the menace simply backhanded him once.

As his body flung through the burning pits and onto the cold dirt, he could barely keep himself awake. As his vision started to blur and mind slipped, he could only hear his mother's despairing shriek.

"JIN!"

Vengeance was his. The same 'Ogre' that had attacked him and his mother was finally dead. As the young warrior approached its body, the mesh of snake, lion, bat, and bull dissipated into several balls of light. Soon after, each speck separated across the globe, never to be seen again.

Knowing his victory was made possible by his grandfather, he turned to thank his teacher. However, he only met a hail of bullets that riddled his chest. He could reach out in agony as he saw one last sight.

Heihachi Mishima delivering the final blow.

Now, he was alone. He couldn't see beyond a dark mist that surrounded him in every direction. Not that he would be able to do anything about it. He was completely unconscious after feeling every bit of his body drained of power. All he could do now was hang in limbo.

"anger...." A whisper had breezed by his ear, but he could not make it out. "me...." More had spawned, but again, they were unclear.

Then, a chilling sneer of a laugh taunted him. Something was urging him to fight. "Curse me....Hate me....." The intent was no longer ambiguous. Suddenly, a face warped by malice and ambition appeared.

"Give into the anger! Curse me! Hate me! Hahahaha....!"

More popped in and loomed over his dangling body. Now with some control, the man flailed helplessly, doing all he could to drown out their message. But they would not be silenced. They would not falter.

And worst of all, they would win.

Images flashed into the mind. Ogre. Heihachi. Kazuya. Jun. And after all of the pain, the faces, one final image burned itself into Jin Kazama's subconsciousness.

Himself losing every fiber of his being to the entity that seared itself into a tattoo on his shoulder.

"Rise! Jin Kazama!"

Jin's eyes snapped open at the bottom of a pile of ash and embers. His body began mutilating itself to become more powerful. His skin paled, black markings stretched across his frame, horns sprouted out of his skull, and pitch-black wings grew out of his spine. Chains had also attached themselves to his limbs, his gauntlets grew spiked tips, and his footpads became studded boots.

The transformed leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu slowly mounted himself onto his feet. As he stared upwards past the smog, he could sense two men with sorrow in their hearts.

He smiled to himself knowing that their sorrow would soon become terror.

A loud and haunting bellow escaped his lungs to warn the two fighters of what they had just unleashed. With their attention back on him, the Evil Angel brushed off his wings before ascending the building's height. As he scaled each level, he reveled in the Street Fighter and the King of Fighter's increasing fright. Once he had reached them, he paused to view their faces.

Without a shadow of a doubt, both men were too shocked to move or take their eyes off of his new self. After casting a dreadful smirk, he announced his intentions.

"Fear the wrath of God...."

Ryu and Kyo reacted to this new threat with thoughts akin yet unique. To Ryu, this was another who had to be saved from his own darkness. To Kyo, this man gave into his temptations and embraced the evil in his heart.

Either way, both men knew they were going to face one of the toughest challenges in their lives.

The first move their new threat made was a dive kick directly at Kyo. He barely evaded the attack, but he would not escape the demon's clutches so easily. The next thing he knew, a firm grip was on his throat.

Seeing Kyo in peril, Ryu hastily rushed to his aid. Unfortunately, he didn't get far before the same man he was attempting to rescue slammed into him after being tossed aside.

As both men scrambled to their feet, they eyed one another carefully. They understood that their biggest threat was no longer each other and that they would need to work together to topple Devil Jin. After a simultaneous nod, Ryu fired a Hadouken while Kyo followed its trail. The plan was simple, yet effective. Pepper the demon from afar while offering a blistering assault to make defense difficult.

Little did they know that they were not dealing with the same Jin Kazama.

In a heartbeat, Devil Jin stepped underneath the projectile almost if he were a black mist passing by it. The next moment, Kyo was sent flying by a lunging uppercut. Before he could even process what happened, Ryu found himself thrown like a ragdoll by a boot.

After both had been propelled a few feet, they gave out their appropriate responses. Meanwhile, their opponent was observing them keenly. While he did not display anything apparent, bitterness was chipping away at his demeanor. Even at this point with, in no uncertain terms, a devil before them, they refused to give it their all.

"Pitiful. Why must both of you incur my rage further?"

The disdain on Devil Jin's face kept both men on edge. While Ryu wanted to reply meaningfully, Kyo simply brushed off the question as nothing more than a threat. True to his reckless abandon, Kyo stormed the Evil Angel's position with a torched fist. However, a clawed gauntlet caught his hand mid-swing.

Kyo did all in his power to push back the sturdy palm, but it simply wouldn't budge. Soon after, Devil Jin fired back with his own shot, which caught Kyo square in the sternum.

Not long after, Ryu launched himself into the picture. While he was able to score a few blows against Jin, his opponent simply dipped and ducked around a majority of the blows without issue. Soon enough, one of Ryu's arms were caught, causing it to be twisted behind his back before being shoved over Jin's shoulder and propelling the rest of Ryu face-first into the marble floor.

With one man down, the Devil Gene possessed Jin Kazama turned his attention to the other one. Kyo was wobbling, but he remained firmly in place. To his misfortune, he wouldn't be standing for long, as the demon leaped into the air and dive bombed at him, knocking Kyo flat on his back.

Before Jin continued beating Kyo down, he heard hefty steps behind him. As he turned, Ryu was slowly advancing toward him. However, the man's stance faltered as sweat poured out of him. Even in the face of such exhaustion, Ryu mustered up his reserves and hurled himself into the air, spinning into a Hurricane Kick.

Devil Jin scouted the move well before Ryu put it into action and countered it by performing his own flying spin kick, nailing the side of the ribcage as Ryu completed a rotation. To add insult to injury, Ryu would be continue to be juggled as the kick carried Devil Jin across the ground, only escaping further damage as one last roundhouse kick walloped him.

Once he had reached the ground, Devil Jin had to contend with Kyo once again, who had caught his second wind. The King of Fighters tried to force his opponent on the defensive, but instead found an aggressive offense trading blows with him. Kyo even found his own fighting style being overmatched.

As an elbow came dangerously close to spiking itself into Kyo's forehead, he doubled up and held it back. As he stared into the blank expression on Devil Jin's face, he began seeing traces of someone who had deeply despised his guts.

"Your resentment grows, Kusanagi. Is your anger at me? Or is that enmity directed at someone else?"

Kyo's facial features expanded startlingly before tightening with annoyance. Who did this guy think he was? He wasn't a know-it-all. He had no idea who Yagami was. It was time to shut him up. Kusanagi started sending several types of strikes across the board. Jabs, pokes, straights, hooks, roundhouses, whatever he could think up.

Every single one of them met a parry and then a merciless punish.

Afterwards, Devil Jin regained the aggressor role and pounded Kyo's stomach. Unable to do anything but grunt, Kyo was left at his attacker's mercy, not that he would receive any. A hand clamped on Kyo's throat, which straightened him up to meet another's gaze.

Not long after, Devil Jin's skull rammed into Kyo's. The blow disorientated Kyo, but that wasn't the end of his headache. More intolerable headbutts riddled several bruises across Kyo's temple. Eventually, the blows came to a halt, but the Scion of Flame could only fall backwards.

Shortly after Kyo's fall, the Street Fighter was able to pick himself up. He approached the King of Iron Fist from behind, but couldn't react in time to Devil Jin's next move, which was scooping up Kyo by his leg and slamming him onto Ryu. Both men fell through the metallic floor and onto one of the lower levels.

The two men laid crumpled underneath shredded metal and dust, but they would not catch their breath for long. As soon as the mist around them cleared, Devil Jin descended from above and drilled his legs into Kyo's back, making both men absorb a tremendous amount of physical trauma.

Devil Jin retreated a few feet away, allowing both men onto their feet. They were worn down, but neither wanted to go down. "How much longer do you need before you catch your breath?"

Kyo, in spite of his injuries, was adamant in going another round immediately, but Ryu kept him from going ahead. "You seem like you're capable of rational thought, Jin. If you can do that, then fight that influence!" Before he could continue his lecture, Kyo threw off Ryu's arm and darted his finger. "Especially if you can! I thought you ticked me off before, but this is just asinine!"

"You misunderstand. Even like this, I can maintain control of myself....and I pushed your buttons on purpose. Why? Because all I see when looking at you two......is wasted potential."

Kyo was quick to fire back. "Oh, here we go! Let me guess, you're going to judge me for my family history or something!?"

It was Jin's turn to point the finger. "Considering that part of you is the weakest, Kusanagi? In spite of your clan being chosen as protectors, 2 millennia has passed, and what have they accomplished? Keeping the greatest threat to your world sealed, nothing more. This cursed blood, no matter how much I loathe it, has allowed to do something more. I killed the rectifier of all things.....The Devil himself."  He then moved his pointer to the other man. "And you...Ryu....I see myself, a man who has no understanding of the true power he has, and is afraid of wielding it....but you don't need to feel that fear, as the power you have is what can change everything for you....No more will your enemies stand against you...You will crush them beneath the might of the Satsui no Hado and show that the strength of those who can beat the demons inside of them will survive. Those who feel they can stop us otherwise will know our might....stop being afraid Ryu....embrace your power, and make them fear you."

Alarm had gripped Ryu. He thought he had mastered who he was, but now, with someone tempting him, no, goading him to return to his old power, he couldn't shake the thoughts of bloodlust taking him over. Worst of all, he began seeing him....

As for Kyo....

"Man, I'd hate to see what your family gatherings are like."

Annoyed by Kyo's sarcastic response, Jin decided to thrust his arm outward, launching a gust of wind that sent both of his enemies through the wall behind them. As both exploded into the next room, soldiers of the Tekken Force stood aghast at the sight of the two tournament finalists in such a compromising position. They then visibly quivered as they saw their leader, stricken with marks, horns, and wings walk in with an unnerving stride.

"Your words can and will not deter me, Kusanagi. I can see what you wield, but you choose not to use everything at your disposal."

Every employee of the Zaibatsu started to slowly back away, knowing that their leader's wrath was something they did not want to become the target of.

The fighters, however, slowly forced themselves off of their backs and onto their heels. Once Kyo got up, his temper flared once more. "Yeah? Well, considering how busy we've been, how do you expect me to fight harder?"

In a few moments, Kyo would wish he'd never said those words. The crystal on Jin's forehead flashed as energy swelled up within it. A split second later, a laser fired. Ryu was unable to react to the surge of energy.

"LOOK OUT!" Thankfully, Kyo was a touch faster, tackling Ryu out of the beam's path. As a thunderous roar of destruction slowly died down, both men reared their heads up. The results they saw were utter carnage. The walls had been torn up and the steel floor had been shredded to bits.

Worst of all, they saw droves of bodies spread across the area, limp or struggling for help.

The sight of it caused Ryu to audibly shout "NO!" while Kyo turned to Devil Jin with a look of revile. "Bastard, those were your own guys!"

There wasn't an ounce of care within Jin's eyes. "They were a means to an end, nothing more. Those soldiers knew what they had signed up for, and if they cannot have the foresight to know what is in their presence, then I have no need for them."

Fed up with repressing his anger and trying to reach out to a monster, Ryu stomped onto his feet. "To treat lives as nothing but tools for you to manipulate and use.....I cannot allow this!"

Following his lead, Kyo took his own stand. "Damn straight, Ryu! Let's give this scumbag a piece of our mind!"

In response, Devil Jin smiled and waved them on to attack him.

Ryu and Kyo sent out a combined attack of their signature projectiles. They sped toward their target efficiently, but Devil Jin sidestepped the incoming barrage. The demon hastened to engage the two in close quarters. They were more than happy to oblige to his request, simultaneously dashing in.

The fighting duo launched out their fists, but their target was ready for them. Fists went into palms before they clenched mightily. However, the two men would not stay stuck there for long as Kyo freed his and Ryu's hand with a kick the groin. To follow up the staggering blow, Ryu aimed the edge of his foot to the beast's neck and launched his leg, sending it back with excessive force.

Devil Jin would roll to his feet, but wouldn't have time to catch his breath as the two kept on him. Ansatsuken and Kusanagi-ryu Kobujustu merged seamlessly, creating a barrage most men would be unable to match. They started to drive Devil Jin back, beating him through the wall they were thrown through.

Once all three had covered a few feet out of the other room, Ryu clobbered Jin into the air with a Rising Dragon Punch. Kyo was quick to follow, springing into the air before planting one of his heels into Jin's sternum. Another one came, blasting the two of them higher. As they peaked, Kyo flipped forward and landed a final heel to the back of the skull, sending Jin downwards for Ryu. When Jin's body lined up perfectly for a shot, the Street Fighter unleashed his Joudan Sokutegri, making his target soar through the air once more. As soon as Kyo hit the ground, it was time to wrap things up. He hopped over Ryu's shoulder and dashed toward Jin's helpless form, raining fists against it as he neared the body. After a solid three seconds of beatdown, Kyo ducked underneath Jin and thrust his arm upward. His fist lodged into the spine before exploding, catapulting the Mishima Zaibatsu's leader several feet away.

However, both men soon learned it would take far more than that to take Devil Jin down as the half-man, half-demon rose to his feet with mild discomfort.

Hoshi made haste to be at Kusanagi's side, but Kazama was quicker on the draw, bashing the older fighter with a flying roundhouse on his way in. Now that the two fighters were separated, Devil Jin turned his attention to Kusanagi. The strikes started flying left, right, and center as Kyo's offense went off. Each swing came close, but they barely missed their marks as Jin bobbed around and underneath them.

Suddenly, one of the clawed gauntlets flew out and crashed straight into Kyo's taped knuckle. The impact buckled the elbow, forcing Kyo to back off. Jin took up the offensive role shortly afterwards, trying to get through Kyo's guard. While nothing came at first, Kyo slowly opened up to the blows, unable to keep up with the tricky angles the blows came from.

While Kyo couldn't get a beat on Jin's moves, someone else did. Ryu had observed this style well, though Jin's usage varied in some ways. The crisp balance between unpredictable offense, defense, and technique no doubt belonged to Mishima-ryu Kenka Karate.

That's when the question of 'why use it now' popped into Ryu's head, but he decided to sort out that answer later as Kyo was forced onto his knees. Ryu swiftly approached, but before he could do anything, Jin intercepted him with an overhead splits kick, forcing Ryu to struggle against the leg's weight to prevent himself from being grounded. Before long, Kyo was back up, driving Devil Jin off of Ryu with his shoulder.

To his misfortune, Jin clamped on his skull with the clawed spikes he had for fingers and allowed his overexertion to trip himself. As Kusanagi slid across the ground, Jin vaulted into the air and fired away with his laser, ravaging and dragging Kyo across the ground.

The move left him wide open, however, for Ryu to come in and latch onto his back. Devil Jin nearly panicked as padded gloves battered his face, but he regained control quickly as he caught a fist and turned to Ryu. It was Ryu's turn to thrash around for safety as he was swung like a bat before being hurled into the air by Devil Jin's monstrous strength. Similar to his ally's treatment, Ryu recieved a chest full of laser, whiplashing across the empty space as the beam directed his movements. Once the beam stopped firing, Hoshi's body went into a pained freefall as he felt the burns in his chest.

Sadly for Ryu, that wasn't the end of the assault. Devil Jin flapped up to him and grabbed his leg before going even higher. Once they were a few yards off of the ground, Jin flung Ryu above him, causing the World Warrior to flip over. Once he neared, Jin grabbed Ryu by his midsection and plunged downward, smashing the two of them through several steel decks before colliding with a reinforced level.

Ryu's body was in total shock as the back of his head started spurting out blood. His mind swirled, his eyes were difficult to open, and he could only grunt as his throat was squeezed.

"What must I do to force your hand to use your true power, Ryu....do you think you're being brave by not using it? It seems that valor you have matches your sheer stupidity..."

While Ryu could not comprehend his words, he could certainly feel the threat and bloodlust in front of him. Futhermore, as his vision seemed to clear up, he began to see things.....differently.

"Ryu! Hang on, Ryu!" That voice...it couldn't be.....

The machine let go of his throat before changing his focus to someone else. A light illuminated from the front as the technology around his foe started to glow. A beam fired into the air as a person dropped onto the floor and engaged the android in hand-to-hand. The assailant fought valiantly, landing an array of kicks to his opponent, but it wasn't enough to drive him off.

As they circled one another, the soulless eyes flashed.

"Insolent welp! I'll crush you with my bare hands!"

The dictator's strength started winning out. He forced the other man into the corner and started wailing several shots into him. A trickle of blood sullied his fists, but that only seemed to excite the so-called 'man'. Energy sparked in his hands as he attempted another blow.

However, flames came out at him, staggering the head of a great organization backwards. More fiery attacks shoved him towards the other end.

As they neared the center, a fist was caught and a devious smile......

Turned into a murderous scowl.

Sickening thuds were heard as strikes became visibly through the back. Soon enough, a brutal shot the face hurled the opponent towards Ryu. As the skidded helplessly, Ryu, despite the numbness coursing through him, managed to widen his eyes as he saw his friend so pummeled.

In spite of the pain, his friend stood up to face the demon head-on. Flames went into his fist once more as the demon jumped high into the air.

At that point, Ryu could bear witness no more. There was no way he would just sit there as his ally would give a last-ditch effort that would end in death. Howls started escaping his mouth, but that only led to rage building in him as physical and mental pain built up.

The demon came closer and closer, ready to skewer his prey.

Ryu remembered his training and his teachings, but nothing worked. In such a situation, rationalizing was outright impossible. He could only focus on violence, rage, and madness. But if he didn't act fast, his friend would be dead. He had to lose himself. He had to become a monster. He had to fight to save his friend!

After whisking in as much wind as he could, Ryu grit his teeth as his old urges started to come out. The air around him became poison and the fire in his chest deepened. But both fueled him to become more powerful. Soon enough, his mind slipped.

And that's when it was time.

The sudden spike of energy caught Devil Jin's full attention, stopping mid-flight from connecting. Kyo, while a little confused, soon felt the dark presence behind him as well. He backed off slowly as Ryu rose to his feet.

Ryu's skin and clothes darkened, his eyes became red, and a mix of purple and red aura surrounded him. As he huffed like a wolf, he began to stare at his opponents. Both were marked for death.

Kyo, despite retaining his attitude, was taken aback. "You've got to be kidding! What is it with you guys and demonic powers!?"

On the other hand, Devil Jin gave a maniacal laugh at seeing the Satsui no Hado come out. "Finally, after all this time, I see you're not holding back anymore. Come, Ryu.....Become what you hate and embrace it....Then you will see things my way and pose a true challenge."

A distinctively savage roar of a voice made it apparent that this new Ryu wasn't much of a conversationalist nor one for pleasantries. "Spare me your words! This is the true power that I have withheld and now you see why I keep it inside! My calling is to battle! Battle in its purest form! You have not spawned me, but your own demise!" In what seemed like an instant, Evil Ryu closed the distance between him and Devil Jin as several afterimages followed his trail.  "Messatsu!" A vicious blow thrust toward the chest.

However, its target merely caught the blow with a look of disappointment. "You....are still holding back....I don't see you using the Satsui no Hado's full power....this is similar to a cornered animal acting out in rage. Why must you do this to me, Ryu...? You continue to force my hand and bring out what you're hiding."

"If your goal is to bring forth this murderous intent more, then FIGHT!"

THE SECOND ROUND COMES NEAR!
